Diaries of Destruction

New release: Diaries of Destruction

This ‘Diary’ was imagined and recorded during Covid lockdowns in 2020-2021. The ‘Destruction’ in the title refers to specific personal circumstances as well as the more general virus threat and its unprecedented effects on our lives.

We never imagined it as a depiction of anything else. It was an escapist focus while confined inside, unable to meet up and unable to travel.

This was - and is - the point of ‘Diaries of Destruction’: if it’s about anything it’s about creation and valuing the creative process of life itself; choosing a way beyond what’s destroyed, getting through unsettling times, rather than giving in to despair.

Covid hasn’t gone - it’s evolving - but just as it’s begun to seem more manageable and even forgotten by some, a very different destructiveness threatens another place, people and way of life. Few imagined it at the start of this year, that one choice would take away so many others, crashing nightmares of the past back into the present. The future seems even more uncertain, and the long ways to defuse and rebuild far from clear.

We’re choosing to release Diaries of Destruction at the spring equinox, when light overtakes darkness in this part of our shared pale blue dot with its cycles of destruction and creation. Any ‘pay as you want’ donations will be sent to UNICEF, the United Nations agency that provides humanitarian aid to children worldwide.
